Recently, someone asked me, “What is your goal?” and I replied, “To live life to the fullest.” Immediately, he responded, “Is living a goal?” I was puzzled. Why wouldn’t living be a goal, I thought.
He said a goal could be a career, a partner, or a financial state. How can merely living itself be considered a goal? Everyone, including animals, lives. How could you say that? Here, I have a clear view: Man! Living and existing aren’t the same.
According to Google, a goal is a desired result or achievement that a person or group plans and commits to achieving. Let’s imagine life as a race, not against others, but with yourself. It reminds me of a popular dialogue from ‘3 Idiots’: “Life is a race… run.. run..”
Actually, there’s only one race track but multiple finishing lines. Step by step, win everything: until twenty, run for scores; until thirty, run for your partner & identity; until fifty, run for your family. After that, take a seat and regret because even if you want to run, you can’t.
Reaching a well-defined destination in a well-planned way is considered a perfect victory.

It sounds more like a guided trip than a journey.

One day, I realized that no matter what I do, society will always ask me, “What’s next?” Why should I run to provide answers instead of running to discover?
I am running my own way here. No finishing line, no time limit. The journey itself is more important than any destination. I’d rather make mistakes in my twenties than run rigidly until fifties and then regret.
